1. You can setup specific feeds to notify you by email or Google Talk IM when new updates are posted to these feeds. Click Settings (on top 

right of the screen)

2. Under Notifications > Feeds, you can customize what sort of notifications you want to receive for events in a feed (eg. new posts in the feed)

3. In this example, we set the new post event for feed name "test3 new feed". We check box for both email and Google Talk notifications.

4.  When a new update is posted to name "test3 new feed" as shown by direct message in feed or mentioning the feed as shown below.
